Oh My Betsy! {Little Rock Newborn and Family Photographer}

Ms. Betsy is one of my baby plan babies.  That means I get to see her at least every three months.  How lucky am I??  This little punkin was anxious to show me her crawling skills. You could see her thinking, “Now why would I sit here when there is something to explore over there?”  and off she would go! I will admit to just setting my camera down a few times so that she and I go snuggle, chat and look out the window together. Little Rock Baby PhotographyContinue reading “Oh My Betsy! {Little Rock Newborn and Family Photographer}” »

A Decade of Mom-ing {Little Rock Newborn and Family Photographer}

The beginning of the this month marked a special occasion.  Our daughter turned 10.  1.0.  It kinda blew my mind.  Kids birthdays are important milestones for moms and dads as well.  We are taken back to where we were 1, 3,6 or 10 years ago.  We remember where we lived, the room we brought the home to.  Maybe we remember our birth experiences or the first time siblings and grandparents met your newest love.

Its been quite an adventure in the Yates household since the time sweet Annison joined us.  We have lived in three different states (each one two different times).  We were joined 5 years ago by Tanner who just added to the fun.  Over the past 10 years she has continued to grow into a smart, talented, funny, compassionate girl.

We have a tradition of marking her birthdays with a special session.  She and her brother were also great sports as I dragged them out past bedtime to do some pictures I’d been wanting to try.

She looks so grownup in her pictures.  But it was later when I walked by her room that I was struck still.  It is that last picture that is my favorite: she is relaxed, in her own space, beautiful and looking way too grown for her mom’s heart.

Happy birthday Annison, you are a gift to US!

She’s 3 Months Already {Little Rock Child and Family Photographer}

I couldn’t wait to get Miss Betsy back in front of my camera.  Her mom and dad are my friends but I hadn’t had they chance to see them for a while so I couldn’t wait to see her.  Truth be told, I could have just held her and loved on her for a while and chatted over coffee. But she was a smiley and happy and ready to do some pictures!

Can you just see how much daddy loves her?  Look at that smile!A daddy and his baby girl photographed during a family photography session in West Little RockContinue reading “She’s 3 Months Already {Little Rock Child and Family Photographer}” »

When I Grow Up {Little Rock Newborn and Family Photographer}

People often ask me, “How long have you been doing this?”  I’m not really sure how to answer them.  It was about five years ago that I filled out all the paperwork  that brought Lizzy Yates Photography into existence.  How long has photography been a part of what I do and who I am?  Well,  I didn’t fill out any paperwork to make that official, but there are boxes and albums full of prints that show it has been a very long time.

In retrospect it seems fairly obvious that I would end up as a photographer.  I have always loved pictures.  Throughout high school and college I was known for always have my camera with me.  I documented every event, each friendship (sometimes to the point of being slightly annoying, I’ll have a few high school friends who will “like” this fact) .   I filled my walls with cork boards covered with snapshots.  I clearly remember going to the 1 hour film developer and waiting to the minute to pick up prints from dances and all sorts of other events.

At least once a week someone says to me, “You’ve got the best job.”  And despite the fact that it can seem cheesy, I have to agree.  I get to meet babies in the first days that they are a part of this world and I get to capture that look parents have when they realize that nothing can prepare you for THAT feeling.  I get to give little kids candy and play chase and make stupid jokes and make them laugh.  I get to take pictures of women that make them feel GOOD about themselves.

It was during a recent trip home that I saw a picture that my mom had framed in the house.  It was her and my sister. When I was about the age my daughter is now (almost 10) I set up my first studio. It was my closet and my backdrops were my mom’s sheets.   I convinced them to let me do their pictures.  While I was (obviously =) no photographic prodigy, these pictures are proof that I have ended up right where I should be.

**A big shout out to my mom and my sister who, I’m sure, will be so glad to have these pictures shared!**
